“agh! what the-?!”
A sharp pain erupted through her tentacles, and she raised them to see a small, marble-sized orb stuck to them. It had tangled them into a tight and painful knot.

“uh, I think I should absorb it—?” she wasn’t exactly sure this was the right decision.
The marble dissolved into thick, white ribbons of light. The ribbons flowed into her and disappeared. She quickly learned what had become of them.
“ergh, this is horrible.” she felt a lump in her stomach, like she was sick. It made her gag, almost to the brink of vomiting. She kept it down, knowing that the vomit would be so much worse. She also didn’t know if even could vomit as a jellyfish.

“whoa, I leveled up in my sleep?” she felt happy, but wanted to know about the tiny fish in the cave.
“uhm, where did… oh.”
Her trap worked, at least. The cave was empty, so she assumed they had since tried to leave and met an… untimely end.
She left, off to discover new things. The reef was quiet, and peaceful. Fish darted in and out of the rocks, and came up to her. Aside from the occasional nips, everything was very nice.
Strange how such large predators could find places to hide during the day. She drifted in one direction, hoping to find the edge of the reef.
She arrived to find a large kelp forest deep below, and growing up to the surface. Sua didn’t really want to go in it, figuring that big things lurked inside. Her mother told her back on earth to never venture into the woods without a warrior, and she still would honor that rule.
However…
“I wonder what this is?”
A clump of large, yellow egg-sized orbs grew on one of the kelp strands. She cautiously plucked one, where it came off with ease. It seemed strangely edible, so she would try it.
“eugh. Tastes like grease.” She ate it, and hated the taste, but what she got out of it was shocking.

“ooh, seeds! I wonder…”
She tugged and pulled a leaf off of the kelp strand after much effort. She took a bite, just to see what would happen.
“hm. Tastes like greasy peas.”

“hmmm. It almost looks like some parts of plants are worth more than others.” She explored the edge of the kelp forest, and found a rather tiny kelp growing at the base of the much taller plants. It looked about the size of an apple, and she wondered what would happen if she consumed an entire plant.
“ew, it tastes like dirt.”

“not quite what I was hoping for.” she swam back up to the reef, not wanting to get caught unawares by the dark again. “I guess it was only level two anyway.”
When she got back, she saw that the fish were already starting to swim for their holes. The coral was glowing faintly in the sunset as she crawled behind a sponge for safety. It began to bubble air up, like it would take in a breath of water and exhale oxygen.
Sua tore a tiny chunk off of the sponge and ate it. It immediately made her feel stronger.

“whoa. I guess that means eating electric things is better for me. I have got to remember that.”
It turns out nothing could hear Sua when she spoke. She ended up talking to herself often.
Like the other night, she slunk into a tunnel behind her, and set up the same trap as before. But this time, it was different.
“oohhh nooo.”
An eel glared at her with yellow eyes, coiling up like a snake. She zapped the water around her. It crackled and flashed, making the eel retreat with an angry hiss. Immediately she slunk out of the cave, hoping it wouldn’t follow her.
She continued to sneak, ignoring the myriads of notifications suddenly popping up. The eel slithered out of its hole in the corner of her eye, where it looked around and then retreated back inside.
This time, she investigated the hole before crawling inside. Nothing seemed to be lurking in it this time.
Only a few minutes later that same eel poked its face in… and got a faceful of stingers. Sua figured it might track her down and carefully positioned herself to make sure it would hurt. Thank goodness for her father’s survival lessons.
It shrieked loudly, and blood clouded the water. Her tentacles ended up tangled in its face, keeping the sores fresh.

It whipped its head around, lashing about in pain. She gripped it tightly.
“if you’re gonna be rude like that I’LL BE RUDE BACK!!” She yelled. Her stingers ended up in its eyes. It screamed with a sound that was worse than anything she had ever heard, and the sound slowly faded.
It went limp, the silence was deafening.
“whoops.” she paused, looking around at the now cautious reef. “uhh… I’m gonna go…” She pulled the body into a hole in the stony wall. Glowing purple coral lined the hole, it looked very pretty.
She zapped it and tried it. Back with her family she had eel once for dinner, to celebrate an important event… she didn’t remember what it was exactly. Sua loved the taste of eel, it was probably the most delicious thing she ever tasted.
Here, perhaps it would be even better. She took a few bites, and immediately fell back in love with the taste. While eating it she ignored the notifications, telling herself she would look at it later. When she was done with it, a rather interesting notification popped up.
